kona grill chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps recipe
Kona grill chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps recipe. This Grilled Chicken Lettuce Wrap is very delicious! My husband and I had a much-needed weekend away, and I chose not to cook anything. So, we stayed in a wonderful kitchen-less hotel (we usually stay where there is a kitchenette so I can cook) and we absolutely love being spoiled by all the different restaurants we ate at.
Our first place for quick-lunch was at Red Robin’s (my husband’s choice) and I ordered their Lettuce Chicken Wrap. Yes, I was a bit hesitant to eat there since, as a gluten-free person, I get a little anxious going to places I haven’t been or researched online. Needless to say, I was blown away by our waitress’s attention and knowledge of food sensitivities. She was very accommodating and we will certainly be frequent customers from now on. Oh, and you can even have their fries – they fry them in a dedicated fryer for allergies! Always check with your nearest chain to make sure before taking my word, each restaurant may not be the same. It’s always better to err on the side of caution than to take a chance and be caught off guard.

This dish just calls for five basic ingredients: lettuce, chicken, barbecue sauce, onions, and cilantro. They combine to form a fresh, crispy, tangy, and tasty dinner that can be on your table in just 15 minutes!
You’ll Need the Following Ingredients
We used boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe, but you could also use chicken thighs or ground chicken.
Use the BBQ sauce of your choice. I return to Sweet Baby Ray’s on a regular basis.
You may make lettuce wraps using butter, romaine, or iceberg lettuce; I love the sharpness of romaine!
Instructions in Steps
- Cook the chicken: In a frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the chicken no longer has a pink color.
- Toss the chicken with the barbecue sauce.
- To serve, spoon chicken onto romaine lettuce leaves and top with red onion and cilantro leaves.
Is it possible to substitute another protein for the chicken?
Yes, ground meat works well in most lettuce wrap recipes, and I think ground chicken, pig, beef, or turkey would work well as a substitute.
Is it possible to serve this as a standard wrap?
Yes, I would serve them in a flour tortilla, but I believe they would benefit from some more vegetables. Add romaine lettuce, shredded cabbage, grilled zucchini and onions, or cooked sweet potato to the wraps to make them more full.
Is it possible to prepare these lettuce wraps ahead of time?
You may prepare your chicken up to 4 days ahead of time and reheat it right before serving. Keep the lettuce and chicken separate until ready to serve.
Which lettuce is the most suitable for lettuce wraps?
For lettuce wraps, you may use butter, romaine, or iceberg lettuce; I prefer the crispness that romaine lettuce provides.
